Question : Moving a Child domain from one forest to another
I have a customer who wants to move a child domain from one forest to another. Personally I don't think this can be done, or at the very least the risks out way the benefits. The domain in question we'll call nuts.forestdomain.com (forestdomain.com is an empty forest with multiple child domains) and is a Windows 2008 domain. This domain is running Domain Functional Level & Forest Function Level as a Windows Server 2003. The target domain is a single forest/single domain 2003 R2 domain...we'll call target.newdomain.net. The target domain is also running as Windows Server 2003 for both Domain & Forest functional level
I'm looking for a good argument as to why we shouldn't/couldn't move the domain from one forest to another.
Note: All the users/groups and workstation objects have already been migrated with SID History to the new domain. Only the servers need to be re-permissioned and moved.
