Question : how to create these buttons.

I am creating a webpage.
on the left side of the webpage I want to keep some options so that user can click them which navigates to the page.

1) so to create those web buttons -JPEG is good or gif is good?

2) Attached are sample which I like.
but how can I create these?  can you please let me know.

You have complete control over the CSS of the menu bar.  So what you would do is set a background image for the items and use an image with rounded corners and then have the text of the button be "Home >>"
