Question : How do I unlock the external HD that is attached to a Mac??
I have an external 2TB hard drive that I use to backup data from a Mac. The Drive has proper Mac Format which is HFS plus volume. It has a lock sign on it and I am unable to get into the drive. I called Apple and tried all the troubleshooting steps, they advised me to call Seagate. Seagate could not help me either. They both are telling me to reformat the drive. I have important data on this drive that I need.
I was able to perform backup using time machine yesterday before I did the Mac OS Software update. The Mac was in 10.6.2 and now it is in 10.6.4
I also tried the drive in a different mac and it still has a lock sign on it.
Help is really appreciated.
Thank You.
Answer : How do I unlock the external HD that is attached to a Mac??
I attached the disk to another MAC, ran the following commands as a root:
$ cd /Volumes
$ chflags nouchg /Volumes/1.8TB
Applied the Modified permissions on 1.8TB to give full read/write privileges
It fixed the problem
Thanks
