Question : Office SharePoint Server - The SSP Timer Job Distribution List Import Job was not run (error 6641).

The problem has been occuring since the service account password changed.  I've tried using the 'stsadm -o updatefarmcredentials' and 'stsadm -o updateaccount password' commands without success.  One of the possible solutions I've read is to stop the Office SharePoint Server Search and Windows SharePoint Services Search in Central Administration and entering the new password and then restart both services, will this bring the SharePoint portal down if I prceeed with this?  Any other suggestiions will be greatly appreciated.

Answer : Office SharePoint Server - The SSP Timer Job Distribution List Import Job was not run (error 6641).

If you bring down only search service, it affects only the users who are search for specific content in your portal. It wont bring down the website/portal.

If your ok with restarting a service with new account with downtime of 5-10 mins then you can try it.
