Question : DNS changes -- how long does it REALLY take them to propagate?

I just registered a domain with my hosting company, and this is part of the automated response I received: "Please keep in mind that new domains take a couple of days before they begin to work as the new dns information propagates across the entire Internet!"

Is this really true?  In my (limited) experience, domain name changes propagate within about 15 minutes, maybe a bit longer.  Certainly not a couple of days.

Answer : DNS changes -- how long does it REALLY take them to propagate?

15 - 30 minutes is what it might take to change locally, but that change will never propogate to the rest of the world in that time, 2-4 hours is more realistic, 48 is a probable max for all DNS servers globaly, so even if YOU can uses DNS resolution within 15 mins, not many other people will which might make it pretty usless depending on how many people globaly may rely on that lookup.
