I want to give Certification Exam by Microsoft for C#/ASP.NET. I didn't give any Certification exam before. Can you tell me the name/number of the latest Basic Certification Exam? Can you also suggest me books and websites which will be helpful?

First go for a MCTS certification, for this you need to pass two exams:

1) 70-536: TS: Microsoft .NET Framework - Application Development Foundation (https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exam.aspx?ID=70-536&locale=en-us)

2) 70-562: TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, ASP.NET Application Development (https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exam.aspx?ID=70-562&locale=en-us)

1) MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-536): Microsoft .NET Framework--Application Development Foundation, Second

Regarding the MCPD you need to pass one more exam after the 70-562.
