Question : A pre import Access tool


Hi, I am looking to build a tool that allows users to filter excel columns prior to import. So for example the user would locate the file and then a box would open having read each column header.

It would drop a list box saying column1, column2, column3 etc and then the user would check each box that he/she wanted to keep and then press import

Has anyone any suggestions?

Answer : A pre import Access tool

Although this can be done, it would require a fair amount of programming, in both Excel and Access

IMHO it would be a lot simpler to delete the un-needed columns via Access, using the  Excel Import utility.

Access 2007:
External Data-->Import-->Excel-->

Access 2003:
File-->Get External data-->Import


As you follow the wizard's steps, you will arrive at this screen where it is a simple task to exclude a column.
