Question : Windows 2008 upgrade from Foundation to Standard

Have someone performed an upgrade fron Windows 2008 Foundation edition to Standard.

Is it requiered to format, is it an old fashioned upgrade, is it only a procedure to type new license using some kind of app to do that.
