Question : Replacing a sole Windows 2003 DC with another 2003 machine

Hi,

My domain has been controlled by a Windows 2003 R2 Server, which is also the DHCP and DNS Severs.  It is now time for this to be replaced.  I realise that Microsoft recommends that there is more than one DC in a domain, but my situation does not allow this, and I want the current one replaced.

Before I begun I ran DCDIAG and NETDIAG on this server (let's call it OLDSERVER) to make sure everything was OK before the transfer, and all tests were either passed or skipped.

For its replacement, I have set up another server with Windows 2003 R2 (let's call it NEWSERVER), and added this to the domain.

I eventually want to promote NEWSERVER to DC, make it a DNS/DHCP Server, transfer all the roles over, like PDC, etc, and global catalog, then demote OLDSERVER, and then take it off the domain completely, before disposing of it.

I am afraid of missing out a crucial step that might mess up everything.  Could you please give me some kind of checklist to follow to ensire that everything is done properly?

Many thanks.
