Question : \\fqdn\sysvol pointing to wrong DC

single forest
single domain
2003 servers
xpsp3 clients
2 dc
each DC has DNS

i recently implemented some GP rules in my network, it all went fine  for days until 3 days ago that i noticed some GPO erros regarding the \\DOMAIN\sysvol\....gpt.ini was inaccesible, did some research and read some KB's and i was able to fix this issue, moved some settings and stuff, so now i was able to apply the policies and the \\fqdn\sysvol share was found just fine.

today i noticed that even tho there were no errors some GP rules were not applying and found out that my fqdn is pointing to the wrong server (dc2) how can i change it back to DC1 (my logon server)

i have been reading and i think it has to do with dns settings
nslookup domain.com brings
Server: dc1.domain.com
address 158.118.50.15

name: domain.com
addresses: 158.118.50.16, 158.118.50.15

currently the gpo is being taken from dc2 (..50.16) what to i need to change so my domain.com\sysvol points to DC1 (...50.15)  ?

Thank you, if you need me to run anything and post back i will be more than happy to.

thank you

Answer : \\fqdn\sysvol pointing to wrong DC

When you use FQDN do you mean the full hostname of the DC which is the correct term or do you mean the Active Directory domain name (ie. yourdomain.local)?

If you specify yourdomain.local\sysvol, it will go to the first one that answers.  There is no PDC in 2003+ domains.  All DCs replicate and can apply updates.

If there are files or policies missing from the second DC, you may want to run NETDIAG and DCDIAG to determine why.
