Question : Server 2008 & Windows 7 error opening shared files "cannot be accessed. the file may be corrupted located on a server that is not responding or read only"

This is exactly the same as this question. When we try to open an Excel file shared from a Windows 2008 DC, Exchange and file server, excel freezes for a few minutes with the message "Downloading" and a status bar that doesn't move in the lower right corner of Excel, and then this message finally pops up:

"cannot be accessed. the file may be corrupted, located on a server that is not responding, or read only.

You can Retry or Cancel.  You can hit Retry as many times as you like and it keeps popping up.  Hit Cancel once and the file opens.  From then on files open fine.  This happens once a day, the first file open of the day, and then it works fine for the rest of the day until the next morning.  While it's trying to open the file, you cannot copy files off the server, or open files from other computers until it finally throws the error.  I believe it's the same for Word documents, I haven't tried with other file types.

On the server there are no backups running overnight, no antivirus installed.  Mozy is installed but suspended.  There are no tasks that run overnight on the server.

Thanks for your help!
