Question : DNS and Exchange problems

I’m on a closed Gov network. All my servers are Win 2k3.

Here is my problem… I have a basic DNS config, I have 3 DCs and all of them have DNS forwarders configured to point to each other. I pull custom root hints from a Core Gov DNS server. With this config Exchange works but I have a few websites on the other side of the world that I can’t resolve.

I discovered that the organization that is over us had no problems hitting these sites and there DNS config is the same as mine. Because I need to get to these sites I changed the forwarders to point to that organizations DNS servers. Once I make that change my clients can get to the sites but Exchange doesn’t work. When anyone tries to send an email to someone in that organization it gets stuck in the Queue with a DNS query failed error. Sending email to other domains appears to work fine.

My dilemma is I can’t figure out why when I have the forwarders set to point to each of my 3 DNS servers I can’t resolve these few pages, I can get to many other websites outside my org it just seems it’s a few that I can’t resolve.

Should I have forwarders configured at all?? Any suggestions?

Answer : DNS and Exchange problems

By far the easiest MySQL front-end for Windows is HeidiSQL: http://www.heidisql.com/
Check out screenshots of features here: http://www.heidisql.com/screenshots.php

All you need to know for a connection is:
.Hostname/IP of server
.DB user name
.Password
.Port (normally 3306)

The connection will be made via TCP/IP on the specified port.
Of course, the MySQL daemon on the Linux server must be configured to allow remote administration login. In shared hosting, this setting can usually be set from the hosting panel, if you have a root server that you administer yourself, you may have to change the MySQL config file.
