Question : POP on Exchange 2003

Small Business Server 2003
Exchange 2003

Hello,
I am trying to set up some user accounts to use POP (please don't ask why)  :)
Is POP disabled by default on Exchange 2003?
It appears that POP is disabled by default in Exchange 2003, because the 'Default POP3 Virtual Server' has a red X on it, and when I right-click it, it gives me the option to START it.
After I select START, it eventually times out and gives me the following error message:
"The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.  Check the Event Viewer for details."

arghh.

Answer : POP on Exchange 2003

Yes POP3 is disabled by default.

Start the service first (Start, Run Services.msc) - you cannot start it via Exchange System Manager.

Then check the POP3 Service under Exchange System Manager is started.

Open up TCP Port 110 on your firewall and forward this to your server and check on www.canyouseeme.org for port 110 - you should get a good result if the port is open and forwarded happily.
