Question : configure incoming email in sharepoint 2010

I have a Windows 2008 R2 Server running sharepoint 2010. I want to configure the email settings to use my exchange server.  Is that a good or bad idea?  If it's a good idea, then how do I go about doing that.  The number of users will be < 100, so I'd like to make the user management as easy as possible.  i was thinking of just using the active directory to manage the outside users.  Please advise.

Good idea for outgoing, won't use it for incoming.  Your front end SharePoint server will need to have the SMTP service running to collect email and distribute to your SharePoint lists.  However you will need a connector setup on your Exchange server that will forward messages sent to your SharePoint lists to the SharePoint server.
