Question : odds of drawing certain cards in a regular deck of playing cards.
Drawing 3 cards from an
ordinary deck without replacement.
What would the odds of getting:
3 black cards.
Half the deck is black and the other half is red, so the chance of getting 1 black card should be 50%. Once that black card is drawn, then there are 26 red cards left and 25 black cards. The chance of the 2nd card being drawn being black would be 25/51 since there are 25 black cards left in the 51 card deck, right..?..
= 49.0196% of the 2nd card drawn being black.
3rd card would be 24/50 = 47.0588% right?
Or all spades.
There are 13 spades so 1 spade = 13/52
and the 2nd spade the odds are 12/51 and the 3rd spade 11/50...??
How about queens
only 4 queens in the deck so drawing 1-2-3 spades in the 3 selected cards are:
4/52 for the 1st spade = 0.0769%
3/51 for the 2nd and 2/50 for the 3rd..??
tell me where I'm wrong....or even right.
Answer : odds of drawing certain cards in a regular deck of playing cards.
>> 3rd card would be 24/50 = 47.0588% right?
Right. Now for the chance of drawing 3 black cards without replacement, you need to multiply the three chances :
(26 / 52) * (25 / 51) * (24 / 50)
Similarly for the other two.
