Question : Laptop Power Adapter cord.  Can it be extended?

I need an extra long power cord for a Dell Vostro 1520.  I suggested to my user just to use a dropcord.  She is having some surgery and prefers not to have the plug on the floor to be stepped on.  Whatever.   Any idea where to get an extended power cord.  I need the piece from the power brick to the wall extra extra long.  This power brick takes the connector that looks like 3 little circles together.   Any way to splice and add appropriate wire to extend?  Thanks
