Question : Project Server 2010 won't install

Hello,

While trying to install Project Server on a Windows 2008 R2 server (64 bits) with sql server 2008, IIS and Sharepoint Server 2010 installed I get an error.

The log file says this:

Executing command path: 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\SERVER14\Server Setup Controller\dbwrap.exe', args: 'timeout=2950 InstallMode=Repair'
Start C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\SERVER14\Server Setup Controller\dbwrap.exe timeout=2950 InstallMode=Repair
Error: Command: 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\SERVER14\Server Setup Controller\dbwrap.exe' failed with error code: -2068643839. Type: 8::CommandFailed.

It says "repair" because it is an attempt to repair the failed installation.

Any ideas?

Answer : Project Server 2010 won't install

Came accross the same error with 2010 Beta. dbwrap.exe which is part of the SQL DB installation.

We were lucky and this post (http://sharepointjungle.com/2010/03/06/install-sharepoint-2010-on-windows-7/) is what saved us.

The answer:

Backup this key and the remove the temporary value.
The SQL server install must check  "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations" value and throw the restart required error when there is a value in this key so it doesn’t interrupt something else happening within the computer.
