Question : jQuery to verify input and open another input field

I need to verify a number as soon as it is entered, without a page refresh. Once the number is verified, depending on the result, I want to show another text input field to gather additional information.

I am looking for code to test that something has been added, and when it has, to do an ajax post to verify.php, where I will test input.  I then need to show the additional input field. I am using PHP. Other jQuery code is used on the page.

I only need some help with the jQuery / ajax part of this. I am fine writing the verification codes.

What antivirus software are you using?  These symptoms are sometimes caused by proactive scanning of the database being disabled.
