I don't deal with gaming computers till now. This homebrew gaming machine has a big power supply, with somethng like 18 gauge wires to all the connections - really thick cables.
1 thing they have is this nVidia GeForce 9800 GTX+ dual slot video card.
Computer was giving 1 long / 3 short beeps and not getting any video. there was a red light on the video card. initially, the 2 extra 6 port plugs weren't connected to the card. I connected the 2 connectors, got green light at the end of the card but same 3 beeps, no video.
put in an old PCI video card after removing that card. system booted up fine.
so how can you tell if it's video card or power supply (and low 12 v. 'rail')?
in bios, the 12 v. says 12.25 but that's not under load. card is 2 years old and once we find the receipt, they'll replace the video card. but will the next 1 blow because the power supply is low voltage? What's the odds of the power supply being low voltage.
not used to these gamer machines - big cables on power supply and huge video card! what's a good power supply cost?
