Question : QoS Prioritzation - Branch Office vs. YouTube

I am just starting to get my head around QoS.  I understand that QoS priortizes outbound traffic only vs. inbound traffic and as a result, I need to configure QoS at our HQ as well as our Branch office in order to priortize traffic.  We use VPN tunnels over the internet to connect our offices.  How do you manage a user in our HQ downloading a large YouTube video vs. a user in our branch office uploading a large file to a server at HQ?  They are both using inbound bandwidth.  It is my understanding that the small amount of IP traffic  generated sending the request to YouTube will fall within the QoS rule.  However, the traffic coming back from YouTube to our HQ will not fall within a QoS policy, or will it.  How do I manage this traffic?  Is there such a thing as inbound priortzing QoS?  I have an ASA 5510 and a Riverbed Steelhead and I am trying to understand how I should apply the rules.

How do I manage and priortize the traffic generated by users downloading files from the internet vs. more important traffice from our branch office?

Answer : QoS Prioritzation - Branch Office vs. YouTube

apply it to your inside interface - the you tube traffic is "outbound" to your users there.

that will help some because it limits the traffic to your network, and for tcp traffic will keep your isp pipe from being saturated, udp traffic is a different story and you would need your isp to help control that.

I don't know if isp typically does that - haven't ever asked them.

Good Luck
