Question : OS X Open Directory Offline Files?

We have an OS X server and our users all have mac book laptops.  We are trying to setup the equivalent of offline folders with folder redirection in a windows environment.  

We want the users home folder to be stored on the server, but still available to the user when they leave the building and can no longer connect to the OS X server.  Is this possible and can any of you point us to some documentation on how to configure this setting on the server?

Currently our users show as mobile managed but this functionality does not appear to be working.

Do you have all the MacBooks bound into the directory you are using?  You need to log into the laptops with the directory user account for each user, set up mobile account/directory on first log on, make sure you have the users' home folders mapped from a network share and then set up folder synchronisation.
