Question : Active Directory - specify nearest logon server for a remote site without a local DC
We have a number of sites throughout the country with Domain Controllers geographically dispersed, but not all sites have a local DC. Currently the remote sites without local DC's point to a DC on the other side of the country. I would like to point these sites at the closest geographical domain controller to minimize network latency. All DC's are running Server 2008 and the domain functional level is at 2008.
I found this MS document:
http://support.microsoft.c
om/kb/3066
02
but it doesn't have any information about 2008. Also, I'm not sure what the Net Logon service Group Policy "Sites Covered by the global catalog locator DNS SRV Records" is or where to configure it? I couldn't find it within GP Management, and couldn't find another reference to it. I assume this is the right direction, but if someone could clarify where I should be looking it would be appreciated.
Thanks!
