Question : BESR 2010 Restore options

Hi,

I am looking at this product for a few customers. They have different server setups, one is an SBS 2003 R2 server and others are using all products in one unit i.e DC, Exchange on one server. These were in before I was working with the customers.

They mainly use backup exec at the moment to do nightly backups. I am looking into the above product to do another backup per night, to use the image to restore to an alternative server. The image will be imported into vmware esxi 4 free edition should any system failures occur with the first server. This will be easier than using backup exec just on a response to get the system up and running again.

Once the image is restored to an alternative server and the site is up and running again then we can fix the original server and the do a V2P restore using the software above.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the above or suggestions or alternative ways to cover these servers, with an option of restoring them to get the sites backup and running quickly with system failure??

Thanks.

Answer : BESR 2010 Restore options

Hello, ube100,

wrt question #2:
(afaik) you can cast null to any type you like.  It is still null.  That is, I believe the casting is unnecessary, but probably does no harm.

wrt question #1:
In general, whether a function can accept null as a value (and what it does with a null value) is up to the function.  Sorry, but I don't know the details for the PrepareCommand function.  However, I would guess  that passing in a null for transaction would mean that the command would NOT be executed as part of a transaction.

Cheers,
Randy
