Question : Missing computers from Network Places

On our domain network, we have over 380 computers and around 40 servers.

When we moved some users off onto a new VLAN and IP range, they seemed to lose being able to see all t he computers in "Network Places"

It seems that these machines on the new VLAN, which are just IT machines, can only see the computers what are in there OU

still going start ---> run \\PCNAME\ works however!

DC is server 2008 R2 and BDC is Win 2k3 SP2
What would be the cause for this

Answer : Missing computers from Network Places

You need to enable and start the computer broswer service on the 2008 DCs.
This service is disabled by default on 2008 and not enabled when DCPROMO'ing.

This service allows the PDC role holder to accumulate the disperate network segments into one master list and distribute that to the elected master browsers in each network.
