Question : Outlook "friendly names" - where do these come from?
Hi all!!
I have a problem seeing "friendly names" showing up incorrectly to people I send to in Outlook (2003) when I'm sent a reply. I'm not sure if the phrase "friendly name" is correct - what I'm meaning to figure out is why does the translation from
[email protected]
come up as Jane Doe in the To: field, even though the name "Jane Doe" is not in my address book. Please read more and I can try to explain.....
So, for example ...... I received an email where I'm CC'd from someone (call them
[email protected]
) and it showed their name - Jane Doe and in brackets
[email protected]
as the original sender - e.g. "Jane Doe [
[email protected]
]". In the To: field it says Fred Smith, and in the CC: field it says Andy Jones (call me Andy Jones). Double clicking on the names Fred Smith and Andy Jones brings up the E-mail Properties box and shows the correct email address for all persons.
All good so far....
I then reply-to-all. I show up as the sender, and it says from Andy Jones [
[email protected]
], in the To: field it says Jane Doe, and also Fred Smith. Double clicking on both those names still reveals their correct email addresses.
Great. My email server shows the email is delivered to the correct addresses.
But then I get a reply from the person the email was originally sent to (Fred Smith). He's not CC'd the original sender (Jane Doe) and just sent a reply directly to me. When I look at that message it now says From : Andy Jones [mailto:
[email protected]
] - THIS IS CORRECT.
To:
Jane Blackberry
; Fred Smith - THIS IS THE PROBLEM. I can no longer double click on those names to see the full email address - but where did "JANE BLACKBERRY" come from - as my sent email was to JANE DOE. I have no entries in my address book for either Jane Doe, or even for Jane Blackberry.
Any ideas anyone??
Thanks very much!!
Dave

Instead of your getthisDir() function - can't you just use: CurrentProject.Path ?
