Question : "Terrible Situation" email
My wife received a "Terrible Situation" scam email yesterday, which she opened. Didn't, to the best of her knowledge, click on anything. Today, when she went to her computer, first Solitaire was doing strange things - playing by itself very fast, opening new windows. When she opened Outlook Express, the Terrible Situation email opened by itself, wouldn't let her close it.
I finally got the computer shut down. Booted in safe mode, installed and ran Malwarebytes Antimalware quick scan. It was clean. Rebooted normally, opened Solitaire, and it started opening multiple instances. I immediately went into Task Manager, which kept getting minimized as more instances of Solitaire opened - about 270 in all. I could only keep Task Manager on top by holding Alt & Ctrl.
Tried opening Outlook Express, a message (a different one) opened on its own, started opening multiple instances of itself.
Any ideas?
