Question : Free / Busy – inconsistent access with Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2003

Have a site with a recently deployed Exchange 2010 server with Rollup 3,  users are using Outlook 2003 SP2 running with Cache mode.  This is a single server, user mailboxes are split between two databases.  There is one public folder database.

( mailboxes were migrated from Exchange 2003 in a cross org mailbox move )

What users are seeing is the “information unavailable” when trying to setup meeting or schedule resources for some mailboxes.  If the user waits a day tries a meeting request again with the same attendees, they use may see the free / busy is available for all users.

Has anyone else seen this issue?

From what I understand Free / Busy information from Outlook 2003 would be published to the Free/Busy public folder.  I know there is a Exchange 2010 availability service but I do not know how that would come into play here where the clients are running Outlook 2003. If you can provide a link to a clear answer on how this works, that would be great.

I would appreciate any help troubleshooting this or finding a resolution.

Check the Self Replica on the Public Folder.

Open Public Folder Management Console.

Expand System Folders.

Schedule +Free Busy.

For all the Folders Under the Schedule +Free Busy -> Properties -> Replication Tab.

Check the Public Folder Database in Exchange 2010 is listed there.
