Question : using external USB Bluetooth instead of Mac Pro built-in Bluetooth

I was having a lot of trouble using a Bluetooth Magic Mouse with my Mac Pro's internal Bluetooth. After searching various discussion groups, it sounds like this is a common problem. Mac Pro just has poor built-in Bluetooth.

So I bought a D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth. It is plug-and-play, there is no software for Mac. I have it plugged in, the light is on. However, I am not getting any better reception to the mouse. I assume the Mac's internal Bluetooth is still doing the connecting.

Plugging in the USB did not make any new icon appear under System Preferences. I'm not sure how to know if its working, how to connect the mouse to it, etc. Help! Thank you.

With an external USB Bluetooth, you can't turn it off.  But, you could just unplug it.  The "on" checkbox is grayed out for me as well.

Anyway, the Cambridge Silicon Radio is the same thing I see when I plug in my dongle, so it's the maker of the dongle's internal Bluetooth hardware.  D-Link just re-markets it.

In any case, it should work but you will need to pair it with your Magic Mouse, I think.  You'll need to make the dongle discoverable (checkbox just under the text you were clicking on) and then you can pair with your mouse.
