Question : After upgrade to BackupExec 2010, can no longer see MS Exchange 2007 data store

After upgrading Backup Exec from 12.0 to 2010, my exchange backups began failing.  When trying to recreate the job, I no longer can see the DataStore within the Exchange server.  Also, when I tried to push out the remote agent I received the error "Error connecting to the remote server.  Ensure that the server is available, has WMI enabled, that the server is available, has WMI enabled, and is not blocked by a firewall. 14"  I've seen many posts with this error but not with the error code 14.  Usually the errors listed in the articles are 24 or 1603.  Exchange is on server 2008.  It had been upgraded to SP3 but continued to backup until we moved to Backup Exec 2010.

Answer : After upgrade to BackupExec 2010, can no longer see MS Exchange 2007 data store

David,

The Exchange option is a licensed option. You would need a key to install it on your Media server. The exchange option is not installed as part of the remote agent.

You need to have the Exchange option licensed and register the license with Symantec so you get the license key. Once you have the key you add it as an option on your Media server by choosing in your Media Server console, 'Tools/Install Options and License keys on this Media Server'

Assuming you do not have a key and depending on how long back you installed BEWS 2010 you may still be able to get the MS Exchange Option to work for a few days in Eval mode. I could be wrong but I think you get to evaluate most options for 30 days or so.
