Question : MOSS 2007 KPI or other widget wanted on Document List Status Count

Hi

I am wanting to provide a visible indication of the status counts for documents in a list,
e.g. 3 in "new", 4 in "pending", 5 in "completed" where Status is a custom column.

Can you please provide some hints / guidance and assume i am clueless wrt. this area of Sharepoint ?
Can this indication be just numbers or some bar graph ?

I tried to find and add a KPI List but could not find this, nor do i know how to connect it to the list.

Site features i have enabled if revelant are :

The "KPI list" should be found when you want to create a list in the "Custom Lists" area.
