Question : got a virus, need help getting computer back online
My sister lives in another state and I usually help her with her computer remotely. She got a virus today and immediately shut the computer down.
I tried to walk her through downloading and using Malwarebytes, Killbox, and Hijackthis (the combo I usually use to get rid of viruses), but she can't get online. I had her boot into safe mode with networking, and she can ping out and she's getting an ip address, but her browser keeps saying "page cannot be displayed" and "invalid address".
I walked her through opening and editing her hosts file to make sure there was nothing in there blocking it. Hosts file looks good. there must be a proxy server or something installed on it, but I don't know how to fix it without hijackthis and she can't download that! She has no other computer to use for downloading these programs.
any ideas!!?? She is using Windows Vista
