Question : Move Objects in GIMP

I want to move an object in GIMP.  About the most basic thing you can need to do.

I select my object with the magic wand tool.  Now I want to move it.

If I use the Move toolbutton from the toolbox, either f-----g entire layer moves, or the f-----g dotted-line selection area moves, but not the actual area that I just selected.

Sorry, it's late.  Who can give me step-by-steps to move a selected object in GIMP?

Thanks.

Answer : Move Objects in GIMP

I would cut the "object" (selected area), then paste. After that, you can move your object until you select another tool. When you select another tool, your "object" will merge with the layer in which you've pasted it.

If you want to move your "object" later, make new layer after pasting it (Layer New layer). New layer will contain only selected object (with some transparent pixels to make the layer rectangular).
