Question : iPhone Data Recovery After iOS4 Upgrade

Hello,

I just upgraded my iPhone 3G to the new iOS4.  During the process, the backup ran taking about 2-3 hours and when the upgrade was complete the phone said slide to unlock as normal.  From this point the phone was completely unresponsive so I power cycled it.  The entire time the phone was connected to the pc so once the phone powered back up, itunes said that is couldn't read the data on the device (although it saw the device and saw it as having 4.0) and my only option was to restore to factory settings which I did.  I then tried to restore from backup (so that I could get my photos, contacts etc back) which did not restore my data.  Is there some way to either A: recover the missing backup from the pc or B: recover the data from the iPhone?  Thanks for any help on this!  I'm really stressing out about it!
