Question : This document requires the following missing component: Korean Fonts

We have a PDF with fields that we received from a third party. We need to modify it prior to incorporating it in our app and giving it to clients. When I open the document in either Adobe Reader or Acrobat Pro 8, I am prompted with:

This document requires the following missing component: Korean Fonts

If I click OK, I then get:

This document requires the following missing component: Japanese Fonts

If I decline these prompts, the document is missing much of the text from two pages. If I accept these prompts, the document appears as expected. This document doesn't contain any (visible) Japanese or Korean characters, it's entirely in English.

I don't want the end users to see these prompts as I don't believe that they should be necessary. As well, some users may not have the option of adding these components due to the IT environment in which they operate.

How can I remove the references to these fonts or character maps (not sure which it may be)?

Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

Answer : This document requires the following missing component: Korean Fonts

After some careful looking, I was able to find the small handful of offending characters in the document and delete them (some bullet point characters and a faux-checkmark). I was able to verify by testing, as well as by inspection of the Document Properties that the fonts were no longer referenced in the document. I hadn't started with this approach because some of the material I read when I first started researching this problem (and before I posted here) led me to believe that the font references were more strongly embedded and that strictly deleting characters would not be sufficient.

Thanks to @joewinograd and @Jabos for their suggestions.
