Question : Subtitles and downloaded movie files

Hey all, been a looooong time since I've used and assisted on this site. Hope you're all well.

I have just been bought an Iomega Screenplay Director for my birthday and I have been using it to store downloaded films from Usenet. Im fairly new to it all (Usenet and move playing in this way) and so far have managed to get a dozen or so HD quality films and watch them with no problems. However I have run into a few problems with a select few files.

First of all, some files seem to have subtitles and I can't get rid of them. For example, the film 'Bruno' came with english subtitles even though the film is in spoken English.

On the other hand, some films such as Pan's Labyrinth and Un Prophete have come without subtitles and they are of course in foreign languages,

So my question(s) is how do I watch these movies with and without subtitles if at all possible?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice, and if I have forgotten to add information, then I'll stick it on.

Answer : Subtitles and downloaded movie files

If the subtitles have been burned into the the movie, you cannot turn them off.
Most dvd players have a subtitle on/off option

To add subtitles to a foreign file you need to download the appropriate SRT file.
You will find them here .... http://subscene.com/    or      http://www.allsubs.org/

Name the srt file EXACTLY the same as the movie and put them both into the same folder. Play with VCL (Free from videolan.org)
The SRT file is small and easily edited

You can then burn the subtitles with Xtodvd
